Direct and Indirect Speech

Exercise 1

Turn the sentences from direct into indirect speech and vice versa:

1. Mr Thumb says he will buy the tickets today
2. Sara: “I must go home now, sorry”
3. Mum says that we can go on holidays together
4. Miss Lord: “Why don’t you go and play tennis?”
5. Mary says: “We’ve already decided everything”
6. Dad says he can take us to school by car
7. John: “I’ll help you, it’s a promise”
8. Our English teacher says we are working very well
9. Helen: “You shouldn’t eat so much, Max”
10. Sally: “I love this film, I’d watch it a million times”
11. Mr Fox told me not to speak so loud
